Wedding Photography: An Indian Brides Perspective

Every bride is special and every bride is different. What she wants from her wedding photography, her expectations, will be defined by her culture, environment, family and tradition. The wedding photographer who understands the unique needs of every bride will create wedding photography images that reflect every bride’s unique perspective.
Weddings are different around the world and in different cultures but one thing that is the same for every bride is her desire to capture the moments of her big day in wedding photography she will cherish forever. The only thing that will be different from culture to culture will be to a certain degree, the parts of the wedding the bride will want recorded in images. For some brides the wedding ceremony begins long before the wedding day, and for others, it’s the actual day that is most important. It’s interesting to look at wedding photography in the context of different brides.

Many Indian brides, even those now living in the United States, will have a traditional Hindu wedding engagement and ceremony. This bride will want the wedding photographer there throughout the traditional ritual that is Solah Shringar.

Solah shringar refers to the sixteen adornments of a Bride for beautification. Solah Shringar is especially important for an Indian bride on the most significant day of her life. Different kinds of beauty rituals are associated with the wedding day. During this adornment ritual the bride’s female relatives help her to prepare herself for the wedding and for marriage. In India, the beautification of the bride consists of sixteen parts and covers almost every part of the body right from the head to the toe. The Solah Shringar ritual is said to correspond to the sixteen phases of the moon. The term shringar is also associated with Goddess Lakshmi, who is a model wife and the representation of female beauty, good luck, prosperity and fertility. This is such a sentimental time for an Indian bride and wedding photography to capture the essence of these moments is almost as important as wedding photography during the ceremony itself.

It is also customary for the Indian couple to have an engagement party and these will serve as the first images in the couples wedding photograph album. This is a great practice session for the wedding photographer and for the bride and groom and guests. It is important that the wedding photographer is reputable and a professional because the wedding engagement can be up to two years before the actual ceremony, and wedding photography is best kept consistent.

During the engagement component of the wedding photography shoot the wedding photography will get to know the bride and groom and their family and friends. He will understand their tastes and preferences and from this he will be able to ascertain their particular style. This will help him immensely when considering locations and themes for the actual wedding day photography. He will also become familiar with the bride which will enable her to feel more comfortable during Solah Shringer and in turn the wedding photographer will easier blend into the solah shringar scene. Some wedding photographers, like Wolfgang Freithof, work with female professional wedding photographers who will usually take the shringar photographs so that the women are comfortable and at ease.

Engagement wedding photography is great for spicing up the weddind day. Use engagement pictures to make the wedding ceremony more personal by using the pictures on theengagement announcements or the"save the date" cards. Another great idea is to enlarge one picture to display at the wedding reception or use the pictures on the wedding ceremony programs. Many couples will also give engagement pictures as gifts to their families. Once you have moved in together display a collage of your engagement pictures alongside the wedding day photographs to show a relationship timeline.
