As wedding professionals, we can’t help but play favorites. Back in the day, I always liked pintuck linens over the crinkled variety. I had a 100% success rate of convincing brides to order fresh flowers over faux. I once got chastised for selling the older of the two reception halls at one property, instead of favoring the newer addition that still had loans attached to it. I couldn’t help it- I know what I like and I like what works.

The same goes for wedding PR, as there are tools that I find myself turning back to time and time again. If you’re looking to integrate wedding public relations more aggressively into your wedding marketing mix, I’d highly suggest you take a look at the following resources:
Two Bright Lights- The only negative thing I have to say about Two Bright Lights is that I didn’t think of this great resource first. Two Bright Lights understands that press can change a business and has created this publicity platform to streamline the Real Wedding submission process. By partnering with some of the top wedding blogs and publications in the industry, Two Bright Lights gives wedding pros the opportunity to manage all of their submissions in one spot. I personally have an account and encourage my clients to do the same.
Additionally, Two Bright Lights allows you to share wedding images with other wedding professionals, which is a wonderful way to update your marketing material and portfolio while also giving kudos to the generous wedding photographer who took the time to provide them.
Blogger Link Up- Guest blogging is a great way to increase your visibility and add another notch to your proverbial press belt. It can, however, start to get tedious if you don’t have a dedicated person to actively seek out the right opportunities for you. This is where Blogger Link Up steps in- by connecting you with bloggers looking for guest bloggers on a variety of topics. Simply visit their web site to sign up for free and you’ll begin receiving regular emails listing the guest blogging opportunities available to you.
Do you have your own wedding blog to maintain as well? Blogger Link Up also allows you to solicit for guest bloggers as well.
Help a Reporter Out- If I was trapped on a desert island and could only bring one thing with me, Help a Reporter Out (HARO), would be a strong contender. HARO believes that everyone is an expert at something, and connects reporters from across the US and beyond with such resources. This gives you as a wedding professional the opportunity to serve as a source and potentially be quoted in articles. Visit helpareporter.com and register so you can start sharing your expertise with the media. You’ll start receiving emails three times a day on weekdays, listing journalists who are in need of assistance. It will be up to you to pitch yourself to the journalist in a timely fashion and if picked up, the rewards can be big.
Reporter Connection- Reporter Connection is very similar to the offerings of HARO and another free tool worth investing your time in if hoping to increase your general press. Simply visit their web site at reporterconnection.com to register yourself as an expert. From there, you’ll begin receive complimentary emails on a daily basis, which will connect you with journalists and bloggers looking for sources for their articles.
Just remember- if you begin taking these steps towards increased press, don’t forget to track your efforts. I recently ran across a quote from a wedding planner friend of mine from Ireland, who was mentioned in an article online at E! with regards to Kim Kardashian’s recent wedding. She was delightfully surprised at the mention, which was the result of her efforts with HARO. If I hadn’t chased her down for an autograph, this may have been a missed opportunity.
If you haven’t done so already, set up a Google alert at google.com/alert of your name and company to make sure you don’t miss any press mentions. And of course, once you see that your name is in lights, let the (understated) bragging begin!
The fact is- no one can do everything. Take advantage of these tried and true public relations resources, and you’ll be mastering the art of PR in no time.
