The wedding industry is a fun and rewarding career choice, although oftentimes, the “new kids on the block” become overwhelmed with all of the wedding marketing options at their finger tips. Before initiating an aggressive wedding marketing campaign, it’s imperative to understand the wedding marketing basics:
1) Wedding Marketing Materials- Advertising guru Leo Burnett once said “Make it simple. Make it memorable. Make it inviting to look at. Make it fun to read.” I find myself often quoting this to my clients- especially those taking the initial steps into the marketplace. As clichéd as it sounds, you have only one chance to make a first impression- with your prospective brides as well as other wedding professionals. Take the time to identify “your bride” and then invest in professionals who understand your vision. Have a consistent, professional brand and make sure it’s prevalent and consistent throughout your wedding marketing material.
2) Bridal Shows- When you take the time to do your due diligence and select the right show for you, Bridal Shows can be a great addition to your wedding marketing strategy. In addition to research, it’s imperative to come up with a pre-show wedding marketing strategy, as well as an aggressive post-show follow up campaign. Be sure to also make time for potential networking with other wedding professionals.
3) Advertising- Advertising, whether it be online or in print, is a great way to send a controlled message to your brides. As with Bridal shows, you’ll want to research all of your options, as well as the pluses and minuses of both, before making a final commitment. Don’t be afraid to ask fellow wedding professionals of their experiences with these sites and magazines and by all means, make sure you are tracking any and all booked brides from this experience, so you are able to better gauge your return on investment.
4) Wedding Public Relations- A solid wedding marketing plan should include long term wedding PR initiatives. This is especially true for Wedding Photographers and Wedding Planners, who especially value the opportunity to showcase their wedding portfolio to a larger audience. Wedding PR, in the form of Real Wedding Submissions to wedding magazines and wedding blogs, is a fantastic way to remain competitive. The key to Wedding PR is the details so as you begin booking weddings, be sure to identify what weddings may be the best fit. You’ll need a wealth of fresh and inspiring details, as well as a cooperative bride. In the meantime, begin researching various wedding blogs and wedding magazines that are a great fit for your brand. Learn their editorial calendars so when the time comes, you’ll be ready with what they want in a Real Wedding submission.
Ultimately, the success of your wedding company relies in part on a well thought out wedding marketing plan. Take the time to understand the various wedding marketing vehicles available to you and before long, the brides will be at your finger tips.
