It is no secret that many developing countries in Africa are still in dire need of Clean Water and, thankfully, these countries can rely on WaterCan to help provide communities with clean, consumable water. On top of providing clean water, WaterCan also helps with basic sanitation and hygiene education to help the children, women and men of Africa to improve their general life conditions and offer them a means to live free of diseases. WaterCan is a leading charity in Canada and is dedicated to offering support and help to communities that need it most.
WaterCan is an established charity since 1987 and has made it its goal to fight global poverty by being a leading charity and providing access to Clean Water to Africa. Through the provision of clean, safe drinking water, WaterCan helps to promote health, education, gender equality and economic growth. WaterCan works in partnership with indigenous organizations to integrate water supply, sanitation and hygiene education activities, to benefit and involve women in the community, to emphasize self-help and community participation and provide long-term, sustainable development solutions.
WaterCan is able to provide sustainable help to eastern Africa by integrating three vital and inter-related components as aforementioned: a]clean water supply, through wells, protected springs and rainwater tanks; b] basic sanitation facilities such as ventilated improved pit latrines [VIP]; and, c] hygiene promotion. With culturally-sensitive hygiene education programs, WaterCan helps those countries to not only reduce risk of water-related diseases and conditions but also helps these communities to benefit long-term from the education programs by offering sustainable solutions. By empowering the communities to help themselves and giving them the resources to lead their own programs and make the best out of the help they are given, WaterCan gives them the opportunity to build a future for their community.
WaterCan has supported communities in 32 developing countries with small-scale sustainable water and sanitation projects. Today, efforts are focused on four east African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. By focusing its work on countries hardest hit by the global water and sanitation crisis,WaterCan is hoping to help the communities that need it the most while being able to reduce administrative costs, as a mean to ensure that every dollar goes further. Donations and support are what allows WaterCan to help so many children, women and men in the poorest regions of the world. Every dollar donated is making a considerable impact and the minimized administration costs will allow WaterCan to invest these donations in the programs and in sustainable solutions for the targeted communities.
