Qawra Hotels, Restaurants and more

Qawra and Bugibba are two seaside towns located in the Northern part of the island of Malta and are just a stone’s throw away from one another. In fact, they are almost like one large town. Both are tourist areas which thrive during the summer months. At any time of day or night, there is a fantastic atmosphere with people walking up and down the seafront; swimming, dining or drinking. The many Qawra hotels make it one of the best locations to stay at whilst enjoying your holidays in Malta.

Qawra and Bugibba provide many advantages for different types of tourists. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday for instance, then this area is ideal because you can find absolutely everything within walking distance without the need of expensive taxis; be it the beach, restaurant, pub, casino, gaming lounge, cinema, ice-cream parlour, shops, bank… need we say more? Also, at the centre of the promenade is a recently upgraded piazza within which people gather, dine, drink and sometimes watch small concerts, which creates a real summery atmosphere at the heart of the town.

From the moment you step out of your hotel the promenade, piazza, main roads and side streets are lined with pubs and bars, ice-cream vendors, creperies, and restaurants. The Malta restaurants you find in the vicinity are also incredibly varied and there are several which satisfy any pocket. From oriental to Italian to British cuisine, you are sure to find a restaurant that suits you, and which is probably around 5 minutes away from your hotel!

Things to do in Malta

If on the other hand, you wish to see the entire island, this is still an extremely ideal place for you since it is one of the only places on the island which has a large bus terminal that links Qawra to all the major areas of the island! In fact, one of the closest towns to Qawra and Bugibba is Mellieha, which is home to Malta’s longest sandy beach.

At the various beaches, particularly that of Mellieha Bay, you can enjoy sun and sea by means of water sports. Water sports are extremely popular and can be enjoyed both by professionals as well as amateurs just looking for a good time. These include jet skiing, wind surfing, sailing, boat charter, paragliding and sausage rides!

Qawra and Bugibba are also home to many dive schools which provide services for both beginners as well as professionals. Such companies could take you diving right off the beaches there, or transport you to some of the most magnificent dive spots or wrecks, around the Islands. You could also take a boat ride from the shore that could take you to see the wonders of the Maltese coast, not to mention some of our loveliest bays, such as the crystal-blue so-called ‘Blue Lagoon’ in Comino.

Further south from the area, a few minutes by bus, one finds Malta’s largest and most popular aqua park. The park is suitable for all the family and you can splash around in the wave pool, take thrilling rides down the slides, or laze around in the lazy river. There’s also an animation team dedicated to providing full days of fun, packed with games, tropical dances, volley ball, salsa lessons, and aerobics. If that’s not enough, you could also swim with dolphins or watch seal and dolphin shows right next door!

Another advantage about the Qawra area is its vicinity to Cirkewwa, the point from which a ferry links Malta to its sister island, Gozo. Gozo is the second largest island in the archipelago. It is often called the “island where time stood still” since it is one of the few Mediterranean destinations which is largely unspoilt. Although Gozo forms part of Malta, it is rather different in both its traditions and culture. In fact, even the people are very different. As Joseph Bezzina put it, “the Gozitans are Maltese in as much as the Scottish are British, or the Sicilians are Italians”! Gozo is only some 20 minutes away from Qawra and surely merits a day-trip!

So whatever your objective there is plenty of activities and events going on which will definitely make you Malta holidays enjoyable.
