Tourists who visit India surely cannot ignore the enchanting spots in the northern regions of the country. India is a diverse country, and there a multitude of places that you can visit in different sections of the country.

Agra

When asked what they know about India, a good number of people across the world mention ‘Taj Mahal’, one of the world’s greatest monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Well, Agra is the land of the Taj Mahal and more.

The Agra Fort, yet another World Heritage Site, is also located in Agra. Built of red sandstone, it surrounds a number of palaces and mosques. Just a few kilometers away from Agra you can reach Fatehpur Sikri, the city built by the famous Mughal emperor Akbar. All these structures provide a fascinating glimpse into Mughal art and architecture.

The Golden Temple at Amritsar

Visit India and make a trip to Golden Temple, also known as the Harmandir Sahib, located at Amritsar in Punjab. Although a sacred place for people from the Sikh community, the Golden Temple is visited by people of other faiths as well.

Plated with gold, the temple has a certain aura and magical quality to it. Its glimmering golden yellow image can be seen reflected on the water body which it overlooks. A simple meal is provided at the temple each day, free of cost, to its visitors.

Ladakh

Ladakh is one of the best places to be in if you visit India between the months of June and October. You can visit and catch glimpses of some of the most picturesque high-altitude lakes and mountainous terrains.

Tsomoriri Lake in particular is truly spectacular. Rafting on the river Zanskar is yet another delightful aspect of this journey.

For those interested in Buddhist culture, Ladakh is also home to a number of Buddhist monasteries. One of the most famous of these is the Hemis monastery which houses a museum and plays host to the colorful Hemis festival.

Spiti Valley

Part of the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, Spiti Valley is home to some of the prettiest wild flowers and rarest animals. Wild beasts such as the snow leopard and the ibex can be found at the Pin Valley National Park and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary which are located here.

Many old Buddhist monasteries of India can be found here. The culture of the local people is also interesting in its uniqueness. For a tourist who wants to visit India to feel the majesty of its mountains, Spiti Valley is the place to be.

However, Spiti Valley is prone to extreme weather conditions and is hospitable for tourist travel only between the months of June and October.
