Canada welcomes millions of temporary residents every year. Visas to Canada depend on the country of origin and the purpose for which you are going to Canada. If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, you obviously don’t require a visa. Additionally, those from a ‘visa-exempt country,’ again don’t require visas to Canada. But for others such as tourists, foreign workers and also international students have to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa or TRV.
Family Sponsorships
‘Citizenship and Immigration Canada’ or CIC is aware of the importance of helping families who are in different countries to be united with their dear ones in Canada. That is why the government has made immigration for family sponsorship uncomplicated. If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, you have the right to sponsor your spouse, conjugal partner, common-law partner, dependent child that includes an adopted one or any other eligible relation to be a permanent resident.
Recently, the government of Canada introduced a new visa for family sponsorship called the ‘Parent and Grandparent Super Visa’ by which these relations of Canadian citizens or permanent residents can visit Canada and reside there for two years. If you are a permanent resident in Canada, you can reside, work or study in Canada.

Study Permits for Foreign Students
Every year plenty of foreign students go to Canada to study. International students also require visas to Canada, but this is a study permit needed to live and study in Canada. However, the following students are exempted from permits.
• Those who are undergoing a course which is for 6 months or lesser.
• A minor who lives in Canada and whose parents have the requisite papers for stay but not a visit visa, can continue his studies there.
• Lastly, a diplomat’s family and staff do not require a study permit.
Deportation Appeal
If a permanent resident in Canada violates any of the laws of the country, he can be deported as per the Canadian laws. In such cases, the resident can go for a deportation appeal by approaching the Immigration Appeal Division or IAD. Reviewing the pros and cons of the case, the IAD can take the decision relating to the resident. The IAD can allow the resident to continue living in Canada according to his personal circumstances such as family ties etc. However, if the resident has served a jail period of two or more years, he cannot even go for a deportation appeal.
