After a successful four year ‘run’, the Victoria Falls Marathon will once again draw crowds from far and wide in 2011. This high profile, internationally acclaimed marathon and half marathon is said to be one of the most anticipated events of the year, and one of the most thrilling races in Africa, if not the world.

The Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is the backdrop for this exciting race. Your journey takes you over the Victoria Falls Bridge, as well as into Zambia, offering some of the best views this side of the continent. If running is not your thing, you can enjoy a variety of other exhilarating activities – white water rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, elephant back safaris, lion walks – the choice is yours.

The Victoria Falls Marathon offers a combination of superlative athleticism, tourism, entertainment and charitable causes. The Marathon has, in the past, attracted entrants from over 24 countries, and its popularity continues to rise. This is thanks to a variety of factors, including the stunning location, challenging terrain, and the option of enjoying a variety of other activities as well. Organised by Wild Frontiers, entrants have the option of running the 42.2km Full Marathon, the 21.km Half Marathon, or the 5km Fun Walk – there is something for everyone and anyone.

The race itself starts at Kingdom Hotel which offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy your surroundings in comfort and luxury while preparing for your race. You head across the Victoria Falls Bridge, offering breathtaking views, continuing along parts of the Zambezi River as well as the edge of the Zimbabwean mainland and Zambezi National Park. The route then passes the border into parts of Zambia before leading back into Zimbabwe. The finishing point is at Victoria Falls Primary School along Kazungula Road. The route is fast and relatively flat and is supported by regular water points and cooling down sections

The route crosses over the Vic Falls Bridge, briefly into Zambia offering the social runner some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa.

Be part of a memorable and challenging experience in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.
