The Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation Program is designed to assist veterans who have disabilities that are connected in some way to their active duty. It also addresses the further challenge of having employment handicaps as a result of their service-related disabilities. A range of valuable services is offered to veterans who are in search of direction after becoming disabled. If service members are unable to work due to their disability, the Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation Program provides training services to encourage independent living.
Opening the Door of Opportunity
In a similar fashion to anyone trying to choose a path in life, an evaluation of skills and abilities is a first step. Service members who have been disabled need to pinpoint what they are interested in doing as well as their capabilities. They also need to determine exactly what their needs are. The Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation Program helps disabled veterans to find focus in their lives.
In addition, there are a range of vocational training opportunities. The goal is to provide disabled veterans with the tools necessary to move on with their lives. They can learn how to polish resume and interview skills as well as techniques to search for employment. Service members can be educated in special employer incentives that may be helpful in acquiring a particular job. Opportunities for job training and apprenticeships are offered as well. Veterans with service-connected disabilities can also take advantage of financial programs that will assist them in the pursuit of a college degree or other form of post-secondary education.
Learning to Live Again
One of the greatest challenges for veterans with service-connected disabilties is adjusting to daily living. Through voc rehab, they can receive counseling and rehabilitation services. Veterans will be assisted in learning how to be as independent as possible after they have been disabled. A productive life does not have to end after receiving a disability.
Apprenticeships Offer Valuable Training
The Air Force HVAC program is designed specifically to provide members of the Air Force with apprenticeships. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning are the main areas of focus. Service members will work with power sources that include electricity, coal, oil, and gas. Training is actually performed on systems that are connected to the military. There are a wide variety of job duties and these can be applied to civilian establishments as well. Installation, repair, and maintenance are all included in Air Force HVAC training. To be an Air Force HVAC specialist, potential candidates begin with their basic training. Once basic training has been successfully completed, Mechanical and Electrical Technology School is the next order of business. From that point, individual apprenticeships begin. For those who do not remain in the Air Force, they can take the skills learned in the HVAC program and apply them to civilian life. Where there training will take them depends upon each individual's initiative and location. The intention behind the program is to provide valuable skills that are useful during one's time of active duty as well as beyond.
