Friends today we all are going to learn the basic concept behind Slope formula and its applications in solving Inequalities. First question arises is what is a slope formula? Slope of a line is a concept which tells us how a straight line angle away from the horizontal or, we can say that it describes the steepness, incline or grade of the straight line. We can also use gradient in place of slope. Higher slope value indicates a steeper incline.

The slope of a line is a number which calculates or defines its steepness denoted by the letter m.

The slope through the points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is given asslope formula.

( m = y2-y1/x2-x1 ) where x1 is not equal to x2.

In general, slope intercept form denotes the formula: y = mx + b.

where m = slope of the line

b = y intercept.

Slope of the line is a number that describes how steep it is. The slope of a line in the plane is defined as the change in the y coordinates divided by change in x coordinates, between two distinct point on a line. Math Solver needs to understand the general form of slope which is called as slope intercept form. Let's take an example to understand the basic behind slope of a line.

Find the slope of the line segment joining the points ( 2, - 4 ) and ( - 4, 3 ).

solution: here x1 = 2, y1 = -4 and x2 = -4, y2 = 3.

to find slope m we need to use slope formula.

Slope m = (y2-y1/x2-x1) = 3+4/ -4-2 = 7/-6 or we can write it as -7/6

Slope formula is also used for calculating the slope of a road or railway. It is used to calculate how steep a road or railroad is. There are two ways to find the steepness of roads. One is by angle in degrees, and the other is by the slope in percentage. Math solver use this formula to calculate the slope percentage: slope = 100tan(angle).

For solving inequalities, we need to learn the symbols of inequalities like the symbol means greater than and the symbol ≤ means less than or equal to etc. Now the next stage to solve a problem is to write the inequalities in a slope intercept form or in the form of y = mx + b.

secondly: temporarily exchange the inequality symbol for the equal symbol. For example

y

Thirdly: Use different values for x to find points that will be graphed in the form (x,y).

like when x=3, y = 7.

At last we need to draw lines on the graph using these above values. Point slope refers to a method of graphing a linear equation on an x-y axis.

Addition principle for solving problems of inequalities is - If a > b then a + c > b + c

Let's take an example to understand the basics behind inequalities.

Solve: y + 4 > 6

Using addition formula Add -4 to both the sides

y + 4 – 4 > 6-4

y > 2 is the answer.

Multiplication principle for solving problems which deals in multiplicative inequalities - If a >b and c is positive, then ac > bc. If a > b and c is negative, then ac

let's take an example :

-4x

multiply 0.5 to both the sides of an equation

0.5 * -4x

-2x

-x

x > -4
