This article is about the different types of equations and how to solve equations in a better, easier and in faster manner. First thing we need to understand is that what is an equation? An equation is basically a condition on the variable. An equation is of many types like linear equation, quadratic equation, differential equation, partial differential equation etc.. The most common type of equations which are used in almost every section of maths are Linear and quadratic equation. Now we are going to see what linear and quadratic equation means.

In simple mathematical manner we can say that any equation that when graph produces a straight line, then the equation is called as linear equation. The common form of a linear equation in the two variables like x and y is

y = mx + b

where x and y are two variables and m and b are two constants.

The constant m determines the slope or gradient of that line and the constant b shows the point at which line crosses the Y-axis. Constant b also known as Y-Intercept.

A polynomial equation of the second order is known as Quadratic equation. The general form of quadratic equation is : ax² + bx + c = 0

where x is a variable and a, b and c are constants. Here a is quadratic coefficient, b is a linear coefficient and c is a constant term or we can say that it is a free term.

Differential equation is an equation which includes dependent variables and their derivatives with respect to the independent variables or we can say that It is an equation involving derivatives of a function or functions. It plays an important role in various fields like engineering, physics, economics and other sections also.

We can differentiate linear and quadratic equation by graphing the linear and quadratic equation. As linear equation always form a straight line and quadratic equation always form a parabola. And the second thing is that quadratic equation must be a second order polynomial equation whereas linear equation always come in first order.

To solve equations, we need to understand the basic concepts behind the equation. For this we must identify the type of equation, means whether the equation is linear or quadratic or differential. Various online tools are available over the internet which help to solve equation in a step by step manner and shows each step to the user to understand the solution.
