When one talks about Orlando, one of the first things that comes to our mind are the theme parks. Home to Disney land and the universal studios, all the tourists flock to this destination. Walt Disney took this city by storm and nothing seems to be untouched by it; even the waiters here dress as cartoon characters! It is known as "Hollywood East" because of numerous movie studios in the area and it is home to a substantial theatre population. The city's famous attractions form the backbone of Orlando's tourism industry, making the city the most visited American city in 2009. With the exception of Walt Disney World, most major attractions are located along International Drive. If you are visiting Orlando then renting a car from one of the car rentals will allow you to drive to these major attractions with ease. The terrain is generally flat, making it easier to drive through. The area comprises of hundreds of lakes, the largest of which is Lake Apopka.
If you are planning a day trip to Orlando then I would recommend you to rent a car from the car rentals here, and visit Silver springs and Flager beach. There are other things to do here apart from visiting Disney land and universal studio and it would be refreshing to see some people dressed outside of the cartoon costumes! Both these destinations are about an hours drive from Orlando and offer an array of tourist activities that you would love to engage in.
The Silver Springs is also known as “Florida’s Original Theme Park. It spreads over 350-acre and features world-famous glass bottom boat rides, live animal shows and habitats, beautiful botanical gardens, an Endangered Species Carousel, Lost River Voyage, Jeep Safari, Big Gator Lagoon, Panther Prowl, Doolittle’s Petting Zoo and Kid’s Ahoy Playland. Located approximately 60 miles Northwest of Orlando, it is open daily from 10 PM to 5 PM. A drive to this theme park is a delightful family experience with its 80-foot-tall Lighthouse Ride, the Fantastic Fountains water show and the historically themed Fort King River Cruise.
Flagler Beach is an idyllic spot on the upper east coast of Florida bordered on the east by the Atlantic ocean and on the west by the Intracoastal Waterway. Flagler Beach is designated as a city with a population of just under 4,000 and is located 20 miles north of Daytona Beach and about 30 miles south of St Augustine. A 77mile from Orlando, it is a divine experience. The Pier restaurant on the beach is one of the places you must visit and boasts ocean front dining. There is a great choice of freshly caught sea food here, along with the usual burgers and sandwiches.
So if you’re planning a trip to Orlando and don’t want to get caught up in the general tourist attraction of Disney land and the Universal studio, then take a drive to these two fantastic destinations.
