Bladder cancer is one of the common forms of cancer and it occurs mainly in aged people. Men are affected more by this tumor than women.

Bladder cancer is one of the common forms of cancer and it occurs mainly in aged people. Men are affected more by this tumor than women. As per research, it is noted that the ratio of men getting affected is 1:30 while it is 1:90 for women. Bladder cancer can either be benign (restricted only to the inner most lining of the bladder) or it can be malignant (spread to the muscular part of the bladder). The cancer spreads through the lymph cells and blood and it can affect different parts of the body. Bladder cancer can be categorized into 3 types:
1. Urothelial carcinoma
2. Squamous cell carcinoma
3. Adenocarcinoma.
About 90% of patients suffering from bladder cancer have urothelial carcinoma, as this is the most common form of bladder cancer.
Causes
Various factors can lead to the development of bladder cancer. Some of them include:
- As age grows, there is a higher possibility of suffering from bladder cancer
- People who have a tendency to intake fried meat and animal fat in their daily diet are at a higher risk of suffering from bladder cancer
- Smoking can also increase the chances of getting this form of cancer
- People who are exposed to chemicals and work in industries related to leather, textiles, hair coloring, rubber, dyes and paint are also at risk.
- Some patients consume a weight loss Chinese herb called ‘aristolochai fangchi’, which can also lead to cancer in the bladder
- If someone is suffering from urinary infection for a long time, they can be prone to this tumor
- Various hereditary factors can also lead to this cancer
Symptoms of Bladder Cancer
There are no unusual symptoms for this cancer. Most of them are similar to any urinary tract infection. The most common symptom is blood in urine. Other symptoms include burning sensation during urination, frequently urinating, wanting to urinate every half an hour but less quantity output. Remember to visit an urologist if you notice any of these symptoms. They might not mean cancer but it is always better to get tested. The cancer symptoms might show up at a later stage of the tumor and it might get difficult to cure it at that point.
Treatments
Once diagnosed with a tumor, the treatments involve chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, immunotherapy or biological therapy. The course of the treatment is determined by the stage and type of cancer and the age and health of the patient. The cancer can also reoccur at later stages so it is important to go for a regular screening to detect the cancer at early stages.
With early diagnosis and the right course of treatment, you can definitely fight bladder cancer and get treated effectively.
