Udaipur also known as the City of Lakes, is a city, a Municipal Council and the administrative headquarters of the Udaipur district in the state of Rajasthan in western India.
Udaipur was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the capital of the erstwhile Mewar kingdom. The city draws its beauty from the several lakes set amidst the green Aravalli Hills in the desert state of Rajasthan. The clear blue waters of Lake Pichola, the 17th century palaces of sandstone and marble, adorned with amber, colored glass, fountains, gardens, and a series of canals connecting the various artificial lakes make Udaipur a classic royal city amidst a stunning natural background. The lakes, mountains and the habitat of the city present an excellent example of harmony between the nature and the man-made environment.
The climate and social environment of the city is very pleasant and conducive to the tourists. It is this booming tourism sector that attaches a special significance to Udaipur News. The city continues to attract domestic as well as international visitors and this is where the Udaipur News can play a major role by highlighting the numerous historical and religious land marks within the city as well as in the vicinity. In fact, Udaipur News can be a very effective platform to promote tourism in the state.
The origins of the city lie in an old legend. The story goes that once while hunting Maharana Udai Singh II came upon a hermit in the foothills of the Aravalli Range. The hermit blessed the king and asked him to build a palace on the spot, assuring him it would be well protected. Udai Singh II consequently established a residence on the site. In 1568 the Mughal emperor Akbar captured the fort of Chittor, and Udai Singh moved the capital to the site of his residence, which became the city of Udaipur. As Udai Singh and his contemporaries resisted the invasions, the city grew a reputation of honour, patriotism and independence.
As mentioned above, there are several lakes in the city and therefore, it is popular as Lake City. Some of the popular lakes in the city are Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Jaisamand Lake, Udai Sagar Lake, Rajsamand Lake, Doodh Talai, etc. Besides lakes, there are many more attractions in Udaipur. Chittorgarh Fort, Lake Palace, City Palace and Monsoon Palace are some of the must visit destinations in the historic city. Other places of interest are City Palace, Jag Mandir, Fateh Sagar Lake, Saheliyon -ki -Bari, Gulab Bagh , Maharana Pratap Memorial or Moti Magri, Bohara Ganesh ji, Ahar Museum, Nehru Garden, Shilpgram, Udaipur Solar Observatory, Sukhadia Circle, Neemach Mata Temple etc.
Any news organization looking to establish itself in Udaipur would need to cater not only to the tourists visiting the city but also to the local population. To achieve this they would have to strike a balance between the international news (targeted at international readers) and the(for the local residents). It would not be wrong to say that any media house which decides to neglect the local Udaipur Hindi News section would do so at its own peril, because compared to readers of English language, readers of Hindi are far larger in number.
