The Cotswolds, which are located in the south-central part of England are regarded as one of the most beautiful places in all of the country. For several decades they've been regarded as an area of outstanding natural beauty and for this reason they attract many visitors every year. If you are coming to England hoping to find green hills and fine pastures than the Cotswolds is the place to come. You will find that it fits the stereotypical image of England you have in your mind rather well.
The region's villages are famous for being built out of stone and their far-reaching history enthrals visitors and gives them a captivating insight into the history of this ancient area. The Cotswolds are split between several counties in the south of the country and are not too far away from London. All cotswolds villages can be easily reached from the capital city so if you are flying in then you will easily reach them by the country's fast, if expensive, public transport system. In this article we are going to look two of the most popular cotswolds villages for visitors coming to the area.
Let's start off with Chedworth. This is a delightful small village located just a few miles north of Cirencester and is a village particularly rich with history and most of the village buildings were constructive several centuries ago. As with many cotswolds villages one of the greatest appeals is the surrounding countryside, and basing yourself in Chedworth is a great option if you want to take several hikes in the surrounding hills.
Chedworth is unique because of its ancient buildings and none is more notable than the Roman villa that can be found just north of the village. The villa is over 1500 years old, but was only discovered in the late 19th century. After this, it was excavated and is now owned by the National Trust. It costs nearly £7 to visit but is well worthwhile if you're spending a few days in this part of the Cotswolds.
Broadway is one of the cotswolds villages that is most visited and if you find yourself here this place it is easy to see why. Many people regard it as one of the finest places to visit in the whole region and it is how many people picture the perfect small English village. Despite the village's immense popularity with tourists the place hardly ever seems overly busy and it is remarkable how the village maintains its charming nature despite the number of tourists that visit it every year.
The Broadway Tower is definitely one of the key attractions in Broadway and once you have climbed up one of the many public footpaths towards it you will be rewarded with spectacular views over the rest of England. It is said that on a clear day a visitor can see over 13 counties. There is a small charge associated with entering the tower but after the hike up to it, the view from the top is well worth a few pounds.
