The literal meaning of twitting is to taunt, ridicule, or tease for embarrassing mistakes or faults. What happens when you watch a live twit? Well! You get both excited and nervous at the same time. You may be excited because it is human nature to laugh when somebody's emotions are played with and nervous because you may be the one on whom the joke is played.
What Is Twit?
Well, what exactly is twit? It is a podcast network run by technology broadcaster and author Leo Laporte. To understand it, first we need to understand what a podcast is. A podcast is a series of digital media files which are either released episode wise or downloaded through web syndication. A podcast is different from a direct download or streamed webcasting in the sense that a list of all the files-audio or video associated with a given series-is maintained centrally on the distributor's server as a web feed. The listener or viewer uses special client application software known as a pod catcher to access this web feed. This software can also check updates and download new files to the current series.
Live twit by Leo Laporte began in April 2005. Currently there are several twit live programs and numerous live streaming shows which cover various topics including computers, sports, politics, and religion. However, the main focus of Leo Laporte's show remains on new technology fads and technology news. You can watch round the clock tech news and information on some social networking sites also. Some of the shows have also launched a live video stream using HTML 5.
There are also shows which you can watch from the network. These include live-on-location events, special interviews, shows in beta, and geek conference expeditions. If you want to watch a show later, you can simply download the free podcast episodes online. In future, users may even get support for live twit streams from stickam, ustream and bit gravity.
The debates and discussions sometimes become too heated and often digress from the core topic of discussion. Therefore, live twit may last from ten minutes to an hour or so. Some of the famous guests on live twits are John C. Dvorak, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, David Prager, Roger Chang, and Alex Lindsay. Advertisements also play on live streaming. Although there are advertisements- say one per half an hour, most of them endorse technology related products and companies.
These broadcasts are especially useful for high tech professionals, reviewers of the latest technology and other tech enthusiasts who are interested in using, reviewing, or buying a particular piece of technology. It is also important to remember that although these podcasts may be useful to some to view and review new technology, yet you cannot totally rely on them to buy something which may not be useful to you later.
