Africa has seen tremendous development but still remains a nature lover’s paradise. Visitors traveling to Africa should definitely travel to Ghana. The country offers various delights to tourists like exciting festivals, nightlife, pristine beaches and delicious food. The architecture of the land also merits a visit. However, the country’s top tourist attractions are its nature reserves and more than 5% of the total area is under official protection.

Kakum National Park and Assin Attadanso Resource Reserve are joined together to form a twin national park. The area is highly forested and rich in biodiversity. Varied wildlife like elephants, river hogs, squirrels and various mammals abound here. Bird sightings include hornbill species, Frazer eagle owl and Senegal parrots. Highly developed eco tourism is the hallmark of this reserve.
More than 90 mammal species have been recorded in Mole national park. The park is well maintained and various endangered animals prevail here. Some of the famous members are the buffalo, roan, kob, hartebeest and waterbuck. Hyena and lions have also been sighted here.
A visit to Ghana is incomplete without a visit to its capital, Accra. Explore the fantastic beaches, castles, forts and the nearby nature reserves. Fort St Jago is an exciting place and was earlier used as a military base. Many shows are performed in the castles and guided tours are also offered.
Visit the Greater Accra Region for a tour of Shai Resource reserve. The reserve is set among rocky hills and is an important part of the local history and culture. 31 species of mammals have been recorded here. Western kob, oribi, grey duiker, bushbuck, civet, genet, Anubis and spot-nosed monkey can be spotted here. Further, the park has nearly 175 species of birds and 13 reptile species.
