Remember when we were little kids and how the lunch box became a routine item in our school outfit days. The lunch box was essential to us kids as it was used to carry our homemade lunches and it came with equally fancy designs. Now that we're all grown up and working in high-rise buildings with fluorescent lighting, lunch boxes don't really count as something cool.

Adults don't carry lunch boxes to work. Or at least I don't. Yes sometimes I do take homemade lunch to work but it isn't like everyone in the office carries a lunch box as an office staple. What is more the norm is a Travel Mug. Since I started working, I kept seeing these plastic, glasses, ceramic, stone ware and stainless steel type mugs on everyone's table in either bright colors or plain black. What it normally has is an insulated inside to keep hot beverages hot and cold beverages cold.

I never really thought about travel mugs until one suddenly ended up on my desk, supposedly a staff recognition gift but actually a promotional marketing tactic. Never mind its purpose-fact is, it works both ways. So since I received my black lid, bright green travel mug with my company's logo emblazoned on it, I decided to use it anyway. So I did my survey on the many things that a travel mug can carry.

Looking around my colleague's desks and asking what was in each mug, I found out that these mugs carried, very often, coffee. The next beverage item that made the list was smoothies-breakfast smoothies and then some carried green tea and herbal tea as well as a mixture of apple cider vinegar with honey and fruit juice as a detox drink. Next up on the list was fruit juices-homemade.

Some used travel mugs to carry different things throughout the day. I know one colleague that came into the office with a travel mug with hot coffee. As soon as he finished that, the mug was washed, rinsed and a smoothie from the fresh fruit counter filled the mug. After that was finished, the travel mug contained coffee again so you can practically see him with that mug almost anywhere he goes in the office.

I became a loyal fan of travel mugs after that as it provided a very convenient way of getting my morning breakfast fix of smoothly blended fruits with yogurt. I could drink will commuting to work in the morning and reading the daily news, I can drink it while waiting for the bus. It was breakfast on the go for me.

After a couple of months using my company gifted travel mug, I decided to get a new one. The first thing I looked into when buying was the lid closure system. My experience with the previous mug taught me that lid closures are very important since you're moving and you don't want the beverage to spill. I preferred a flip top lid. Next was good insulation as I wanted my cold drinks cold and my hot drinks hot. And of course, I wanted a slip proof outer layer that made gripping easy especially in a packed commuter.
