These tests are used for nearly every medical condition from bone and joint problems to medical conditions affecting any organ in the body.

What do Radiologic Technologists Do?

Radiology technologists do much more than take just x-rays. Technologists prepare the patient for examinations and must understand how to position the patient to obtain the correct images. They may also learn to perform mammograms, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. Some will assist with biopsies, hospital procedures such as stent placements, fluoroscopy or nuclear imaging testing. Technologists work directly with patients and doctors. Opportunities for advancement include supervisory positions or teaching radiology technology programs.

Some technologists complete an additional program in ultrasonography and perform ultrasound imaging examinations such as pregnancy ultrasounds or echocardiograms of the heart.

Attending School for Radiologic Technology

Illinois Radiologic technology colleges offering this program are approximately two years long and can lead to an associates degree.
