Finally 2011 sees the end of the rule of the skinny jean. The average sized chap might be happy to bid farewell to this trend, but in truth skinny is still lurking, albeit in a subtler way.
Finally 2011 sees the end of the rule of the skinny jean. The average sized chap might be happy to bid farewell to this trend, but in truth skinny is still lurking, albeit in a subtler way. Super skinny is old news but the overall trouser shape is still anything but baggy. So slim fit is the way to go unless you want to shake things up with the biggest new jeans trend for men in 2011. 2011 sees the return of the flare. The way to wear it is bigger than bootcut, but smaller than bellbottoms. Make sure your new flares flare out from above the knee and not below as they did in the 70s.

The biker trend is one that is emerging not just in mens clothing but in womens too. Mens trends usually follow after womens but this year they are both sharing the trend, albeit in different ways. The essential biker item for men this season is the biker jacket. Biker jackets were especially prevalent at Burberry, but also reared their heads at Balmain and as part of the spring collection at Chanel. You dont need to go vintage, as we saw a stunning array of bold new biker jackets at the shows that featured innovative tailoring, just stick to black to stay on trend.

If a biker jackets not your style, then go for a fishermans jacket instead. You could not fail to miss that last year was the year for wax jackets and country styles, but now the mens jacket goes fishing not horse riding. There is a whole range of fisherman jackets and sailing jackets on the high street for spring, with lighter options proving popular for spring. Team with chinos and a St Tropez striped tee for a crisp fresh spring look.

Trends in the male fashion world tend to evolve at a slower pace than womens fashions. Suits are especially slow to adapt, and when they do it is often with subtle detailing and the occasional trend for a whole new cut. This spring the notable suit change is in terms of colour and fabric. Linen is back for spring and summer, and is the most breathable suit fabric going. This particular material might be crease prone, 2011 sees a trend for dark linen fabric which hides creases far better than the traditional beige. As for colour, there is only one suit shade this summer and its tobacco brown. This is another nod to the seventies of course.
