Few of the well known medical colleges of Punjab are the Govt. Medical College, Amritsar, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, and Homeopathic Medical College, Abohar. To get into the undergraduate program students must have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate examination or its equivalent with at least 50% of marks including Physics, Chemistry and Biology, from any recognized Board. Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research was established in 2006 and is approved by the medical Council of India (MCI) and is recognized by the state government of Punjab. Permitted by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare it is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. It offers MMBS course of five and half years duration along with internship. Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Punjab, was the first medical school for women. Since 1999 this college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. Its medical and para-medical teaching staff and other staff come from nearly every state in India. Christian Medical College also includes Dental College, College of Nursing, and Institute of Allied Health Sciences. Homeopathic Medical College, Abohar was established in 1975 and is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot and approved by the Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi. It is managed and run by Bhai Kanhaya Sewa Society, Bathinda. It offers undergraduate course in BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery).
