Here are the top tips for creating a project report for an engineering final year project
|
Keeping an engineering project report simple and easy to understand is the best idea for getting the full credit of your hard work in creating the project and the project report as well.
There are basic requirements before you can create an attractive project report, here is the checklist
• A Computer System
• Microsoft Office or Open Office Org
• A Photo Editing Software for basic editing of project snapshots
• A working internet connection
After you have all the above things, you are ready to create the project report.
You know the complete details on how you are developing the projects, so before you start making the project report make a checklist of the things or resources you required during the project development on a plane paper. Make a list of items, tools you have used in developing the project.
Now distribute the project report creating in three parts says design part, development part and review part.
Design Part – Designing an attractive, clean and catchy front page for the report presentation is one of the most important thing you will be credited for because as said “First impression is the last impression”. The design ideas that can be applied to the front page design are:
• Keep it simple, do not put too much text or images on the front page
• Keep the things aligned properly, center align is the most suitable for best visuals
• Graphics are like ice on cream, use light colored relevant graphic image in the background of the page
• Take care of header and footers, keep those short with just the punch line which can describe the project objectives and do not include the page no. or any date on this page.
Development Part - Creating inner pages, the second page should contain the table of contents, then a few details about you and your project team. You can include a table in this page for describing the details of all the team members like their role in the project development, contact details and the current objectives of each member.
After you have created these few pages, you need to describe your project, so below is the checklist you need to prepare for the report
• What the project is all about?
• Why you developed this project?
• What are the technologies/resources used?
• What are the benefits of this project?
• How it is different from similar kind of other projects?
• Who has helped you in creating the project and how?
• Now, the most important part, How you and your team developed that project, complete step by step details e.g including the interface snapshots and main coding part in case of a software project.
After you have enough content to write about the things said above, just put the content in the world file one after another and it’s done. Also, don’t forget to include relevant graphics and the internet resources (If you have used) between the text content. Using bullets for defining a process is the best practice in making the report easily understandable and visually appealing.
Adding a synopsis at the last of the report or a brief review is another great idea. And, don’t forget to say Thank You at last.
Review Phase – At last, you just need to review the whole content of the report in case to ensure all the items are placed well at their suitable place and there are no spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes or formatting errors. It is just to make you sure.
