Beauty of forests and the pleasures of walking through it, smelling the flora, watching the insects moving about and the chirping of the birds, this is where man was destined to live, man was not born to live in cities, but in the lap of nature and this is what we call the biodiversity. A variety of forms of life within an entire planet is known as biodiversity. The biological diversity consists of a huge number of species of animals, plants and micro organisms, the diverse genes in varied species and the variety of ecosystems. But the problem that the human beings are facing is the shrinking of the biodiversity. Biodiversities are shrinking in sizes due to the various anthropogenic activities. The step that we have to take is biodiversity conservation.

There are basically four types of biodiversities. Genetic diversity is the genetic variability in species. The variety of species in a community is known as species diversity. The various species are organized into communities and this is known as ecosystem diversity. Functional diversity is the diversity of various chemicals and biological processes.

The Dancing Stars Foundation caries out biodiversity conservations techniques to protect the great biodiversity of the Earth. They launched a documentary film called ‘Hotspots’ which explores the 35 richest life spots of the world. In addition to launching such films, this foundation promotes biodiversity conservation by the means of education. The Dancing Stars Foundation works in various countries like Brazil, Bhutan, Australia, Chile, France, Austria, England, Scotland, India, Japan, Ghana, Nigeria, Holland, Iran, Indonesia, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, Malaysia, Peru, Mexico, Portugal, New Zealand and many more.

Another important aspect is the biodiversity importance. Will it make any difference if a variety of species do not exist, and if it will what are the consequences? Biodiversity in ecosystem boosts productivity. Whether a species is very small or large they make a difference in the ecosystem. Larger number of species will produce larger number of crops and yields. Biodiversity importance is huge; the direct harvesting of biodiversity gives fuel, firewood, food, herbs and medicines. Other importance is regulation of climate and water, protection of soil, protection of the shorelines and reduction in floods, landslides and erosion. Biodiversity promotes the control of agricultural pests. Recreation and tourism also depends greatly on biodiversity and thus there is a great need to protect it. Biodiversity Conservations are also carried out by tribal, religious, ethical and cultural groups. They associate the components of biodiversity with gods and goddesses and so preserve it. This in turn leads to the conservation of biodiversity.

There is a need to protect the biodiversity in ecosystem as it preserves the quality of life. If the biodiversity shrinks ecosystems seize to operate and exist. Human actions are causing a global and long term effect on the biosphere. The sad part is that this will show a negative impact and effect on the human beings themselves. To conserve biodiversity immediate research has to take place and immediate action as well.
