Most of us share a bathroom with our beloved partners or other family members. Therefore, how many times have you been asked when you come out of this room in your home after enjoying a nice steamy shower “how long is it before I can use it?” The answer is probably “it could be while”.
The reason for this is the amount of steam that’s produced. Now, many modern bathrooms are equipped with fans that assist with the removal of steam but things like bathroom mirrors and even your bathroom suite can take time to lose that moisture ridden sheen.
Why Moisture Appears
Moisture or condensation appears in your bathroom when warm air hits cold objects. This is then turned into water which, quite frankly, can be a right nuisance as it gets everywhere. If you have a toilet in this room (which most of us do these days), the paper can become quiet sodden and very unpleasant. Add to that the little ornaments you have dotted around and the environment left behind can be pretty unpleasant for a while.
What to do About it
Well, there are a number of things you can do. Many of us will have a fan of some sort installed when we first move into a home; especially if your bathroom doesn’t have any windows. However, many of these are not adequate enough to effectively remove the moisture quickly.
You could update this or you could add a small dehumidifier (if you have the floor space). What’s great about these little gadgets is they will collect the excess moisture from the air and it will be stored in a bucket. This can then be recycled to say, water plants.
If you have the spare cash, consider having bathroom mirrors installed that are resistant to moisture. They’re cleverly designed to repel water. Apart from keeping the moisture levels down in your bathroom, they will also eliminate what is probably the most annoying thing on planet earth about this room and that is the need to use a towel so you can see your face in the mirror!
You could of course, take cooler showers or baths but for most of the year we all look forward to a hot and steamy few minutes in the water.
Still Having a Problem?
If you’ve tried some of the tips above and still have a problem, it could mean that there is a leak somewhere. Leaks are pesky because they don’t always let you know where they are! In this case, it’s a good idea to either have the person that installed your bathroom or a trained plumber to come and check. However, before spending the money on this, you should make sure that all the seals around your bathtub and other items of furniture that come into contact with water are still intact.
If you’re having a real problem with moisture in your bathroom, it could be that you’ve got a leak under your bathroom suite. If this is the case then you should either call in the people that installed it or get a plumber to check it out.
