Choosing your spot at the convention. Know which areas get the most traffic & present best opportunities for interacting with visitors.
Sometimes, vendors are unable to select their own spots at an expo or convention. Often times this process is randomly assigned. But, if you can choose where to set up your exhibitor’s booth, here are a few tips to consider.

The first is to do your research. It is best to scout the location of the convention before actually signing up for a booth. Learn the layout and watch the traffic patterns of the people. Over time, you may learn to see which areas offer the heaviest foot traffic.

Also, talk to the people running the event for information. Find out how large your exhibitor space will be, how many vendors there are, how many people will be attending, and any other rules you may need to know. While scouting the expo location, you should chat with other vendors and get a feel for how well they think they are performing in their given location.

To make sure you get a space at the trade show convention, be very careful about following the directions in the application. Read it closely and then reread it. Your expo booth may be rejected if you don’t send in all of the items or information that is asked for. Make a list of things you need, and then check off the items as you get them.

Another thing to keep in mind is preparing for the trade show expo. Get there early and design your tables so that they can hold as much inventory as possible. Tablecloths are a great way to add color and distinction to your table, and they should reach to the floor for a better appearance. Also, with the tablecloths, you can store items under the tables without anyone noticing. If the expo is outdoors, you might want to consider adding a canopy to your table or booth. Canopies are also something that people can see from a distance. You can also put signs up around your booth, highlighting items you want people to notice.

Many a trade show exhibitor has discovered that setting prices for their wares or services above the amount they really want to receive is a good sales tool. This allows you to bargain a bit with visitors to your booth. People often react better if they feel they got a good deal on an item.

Lastly, make sure to have a safe place for your cash. If you can, take a helper with you. This way, one person can collect the cash or information, while the other talks to customers and keeps an eye on the merchandise.
