Wood dunnage is much more than just bits of scrap that are thrown away. With the current focus on the environment, we need to reuse and recycle our natural resources as much as we can, and wood dunnage is the perfect example of something that can be used in different ways. Instead of just throwing away those leftover scraps of wood at the end of a project, they can be put to good use.
Here are three uses for wood dunnage:
1. Wood dunnage makes great flooring.
This use certainly sounds odd, but it’s the latest trend in reclaimed flooring. Wood that has been reclaimed from the scrap pile can be quite large in size, and these pieces of wood can be cut up to made beautiful, environmentally wood floors. Hardwood flooring is very popular right now, and reclaimed wood helps save forests and can possibly save you money as well. All it takes is a little polish and finishing touches, and you have a hardwood floor that is just as beautiful as if you did not use wood dunnage.
2. Companies often use wood dunnage to make plywood panels or for wood chips.
This is probably the most common use for scrap wood, especially if there is just a very small section of it. Often special shipping bags are filled up with wood chips, and the bags are then used as a sort of cushion between cargo packages inside ships and large aircraft in the cargo hold. However, there are just too many other uses for wood dunnage that most people aren’t aware of. After all, you only need a certain amount of plywood or wood chips. You can keep reusing those for multiple purposes. This is why it’s so important to realize the other possible uses for wood dunnage.
3. Wood dunnage can also be used to build skids and shipping containers.
Raw wood dunnage that’s unfinished can be used for pretty much anything, and heat treated wood dunnage has even more uses. It’s perfect for building skids or shipping containers out of.
There are also numerous other projects that scrap wood can be used for. If you can dream up a small project, chances are that there is enough scrap wood lying around to do it.
