Bamboo flooring adds to the beauty of your rooms and fits easily to any kind of interior décor. There are different types of bamboo flooring and you can choose from the Vertical and Horizontal bamboo flooring and Strand Woven bamboo flooring available in solid and Engineered forms.
The first type of flooring makes use of several strips of bamboo material adhered together in a horizontal or vertical style. The Strand Woven bamboo flooring consists of thin strands of bamboo that are woven together under an extreme heat and high pressure. A very popular form of this type of flooring is a combination of strands of both natural and carbonized bamboo, creating a look similar to tiger stripes. Third type of bamboo flooring is made up of 3 layers of bamboo with a strand woven top and bottom layer and horizontal cross section. Engineered bamboo flooring makes a wonderful gift for people living in the humid areas as it is more resistant to the moisture than any other type of bamboo flooring.
While bamboo has been a popular and common building material for ages in Asia, it is a relatively new trend in West. The great look, strength, durability and stability of bamboo have made many homeowners to use this wonderful material in the form of the flooring in their homes. Moreover, bamboo appeals to the environmentally conscious people due to its ecological benefits. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the earth and is considered as a highly renewable resource. As compared to trees which may take 60 to 70 years to hit maturity, bamboo crop grows extremely quickly to fulfill the needs of wood to be used in the construction projects on a large scale. Hence, the natural habitats are not disturbed due to the cutting of bamboo for the commercial use as it grows in just 5-7 years after its harvest.
Bamboo is conducive to fresh air and has the amazing ability to produce a greater biomass than comparable-sized hardwood forests. Bamboo reduces the greenhouse gases and produces more oxygen than trees. The ecological benefits of bamboo are not limited to the sustainability and renewability that this magnificent material has to offer; it helps in the soil restoration of the land and removes toxins from contaminated soil. Moreover, it plays a vital role in the improvement of watersheds in its surroundings by eliminating harmful chemicals from water.
Besides the great ecological benefits, bamboo is a very strong and durable building material. It has a Janka scale rating of above 1600, which makes it a harder material than traditional hardwoods such as Maple and Oak. The hardness of the bamboo challenges Walnut and its strength even rivals steel. The scratch resistance of bamboo is very high and is not susceptible to the dents due to the fallen objects and heavy furniture.
