There are different ways in which you can decorate the concrete in your house. For example, you can use different types of colors and dyes to bring in different types of shades on the concrete. However, if you want different interesting textures on the concrete, you can easily do this with the help of the rubber imprinting stamps. The imprinted concretes can have very interesting looks and can be used widely in different sections of the building.
In this process, the rubber imprinting stamps are pressed on the wet slabs and concrete. The impression is done to resemble the texture of natural stones or brick. Generally, these stamps are made from the molds that are made from the authentic wood or stone. Also, there is some release agents applied to the stamps so that they don’t get attached to the surface of the concrete. These release agents are available in both liquid and powder forms.
However, there are different types of imprinted concretes available in the market. They vary widely in terms of the textures. However, if you are looking for something creative for your concrete slabs, the overlays are one of the better options that you have. In fact, there are different types of overlays available including the stamped overlays.
In this process, the rubber imprinting stamps are impressed on the thin and pre mixed concrete overlay. Actually, the concrete overlays were first used during 1960s. This was the time when some leading chemical engineers of the time started to experiment with the acrylic resins and its effect on sand and cement mixes.
They found a thin topping material that can be easily attached to the concrete surface and thus, a resurfaced coating can be provided for the worn out concretes. Soon, this process became very popular. However, one major drawback of this process was that these overlays can’t perform for a long time. But, the acrylic resins provided good protection from the UV rays though they lacked in water resistance.
However, the polymer cement overlays seem to be an effective solution to this problem. Basically, these overlays consist of polymer resins, Portland cement and different aggregates. This combination enhances the capacity of the overlay to a great extent and at the same time, it lengthens the longevity and maximizes the versatility of the overlay. What’s more, these overlays can be applied both thinly and thickly without any fear of product failure. They are also very resistant to the petrochemicals, salt, harsh weather, and the UV.
The polymer cement overlays were actually used for the restoration of worn out concretes by using a thin coat on them. However, in 1980s, these overlays were introduced in the commercial flooring as well as in the architectural concrete. Soon, it becomes quite a regular affair as they are economical and durable for a long time. Also, the maintenance is relatively more convenient and comfortable as well.
