The decorative concrete is certainly the order of the day. These days, both the residential and the commercial buildings are using them on a large scale. Concrete has always been known for its strength. Now, what these decorative concretes have added to that reputation is the beauty of the look. At the same time, they have the made concrete more durable and resistant to the decaying factors.
In this regard, the polymer cement overlays have a special place. They are widely used in both the exterior and the interior constructions. Well, the increasing popularity of this type of concrete overlay is certainly due to different factors. For example, this type of overlay can be successfully used to restore the damaged, flaking, and stained concretes. In fact, the original use of this concrete was precisely this. It can easily repair the surface of the concretes that are already settled. And finally, there is the aesthetic factor. These overlays are one of the most effective options to decorate the set concretes.
You can apply it on the thin stained and the thin stamped modes to create different textures, designs and colors. Among the different textures available these days, the splatter texture and the knockdowns are some of the most well known designs for the commercial as well as the residential pool deck. Here, the polymer cement is applied to existing concrete substrate in a medium textured finish. There are various patterns that can be tried for this. However, in most of the time, the textured in knocked down with the help of a trowel so that the appearance is slightly modified and it gives the impression of a finished application.
However, the polymer cement overlay is not the only option available to you if you are looking to decorate your concretes. There are several other ways in which you can do this. For example, the concrete can be polished as well. For this, the help of the mechanical grinders are taken along with the diamond pads with increasing grits. In fact, there are different grit sizes available for the diamond pads though the concrete can maintain only up to 800 grit.
The use of the concrete hardeners such as the Lithium Silicate, and Sodium Silicate can help in this respect and enhance the capacity of holding up to 3000 grit shine. Generally, the entire process requires several stages whereby the concrete finally gets a hard glassy finish. During the polish both the concrete dyes and acid stains can be used.
Engraving is another option to create the decorative concrete. In this process, the existing concrete is remodelled by cutting grooves and lines on the surface. There are different textures such as the geometric patterns, curved or straight lines as well as the custom designs that can be used in this purpose. Tools such as angle grinder with diamond blades are often used to these types of engravings along with other specialized tools.
