In the past few weeks I have encountered horrible customer service. I think customer service is one of the most important things for the company and its brand image. I can’t imagine myself going back to a shop where I haven’t been given friendly and knowledgeable service.

One case three weeks ago left me speechless and I decided I would never again shop at that brand. It was when my husband and I went to a furniture store and bought a bed. Since we still hadn’t moved to our new apartment at that point, we said we would pay for the bed straight away but would have it delivered only in three weeks, which they said was okay. We were pleased because the bed was perfect for our new bedroom. However, in two weeks the sales person called us and said that there was a problem; apparently they had sold our bed, which we had paid for, to someone else and they would be getting the same bed model only in one month. I was shocked since it was few days until we would have to move houses and now we wouldn’t have anything to sleep on because our current bed doesn’t fit through the doors of the new apartment. I asked them how we would proceed and he said that we would obviously get the bed in one month. I was furious – not only we had agreed on that the bed would be delivered on the same day that we move but also we had paid for it already! I said it was totally unacceptable to which he suggested that we would get the bed on display until we would get the brand new bed. I didn’t understand how that was less hassle for us since there is already immensely a lot to do with moving. I asked him to call his supervisor and sort this thing out, and to call me back at the end of the day. He did and in the end we got 20% off the original bed price, although we did have to settle on sleeping on a display bed for few weeks.

After this experience, I started to respect more customer-oriented and diligent companies, such as Uunisepät. We had a fireplace installed by Uunisepät and although the installation of a fireplace should be more of a hassle than buying a bed, it definitely wasn’t. They did such a good job that after the bed episode, I sent a big box of chocolates to the expert at Uunisepät who had installed our fireplace with a smile and a customer-oriented attitude.
