Types Of Sprays
If you live at a windy place, you may want to go for a stream type spray. Although it might be less effective, it has a terrific range. It is 15-20 feet. The advantage of this pepper spray is that you can be at a greater distance from your attacker and still give him the sting of his life. Also, there is no danger of the chemical blowing back to you.
Cone mists have finer droplets and are quite effective. They are found to freeze the attacker in his tracks. Their range is 4-8 feet. You can get them as cone sprays ranging from 12 to 15 feet. The sprays come in canister with high pressure, rendering a fine stream of 15-20 feet. However, there are fewer shots per unit, as the OC is distributed in huge quantities in each shot.

Stun guns and sprays have become popular items of defending yourself against an attacker. The chemical present in the sprays is inflammatory. When it comes in contact with eyes, throat, nose, and lung, it hits the mucous membranes present in them and leads to instant capillary dilation. This makes the affected eyes teary. The stronger concentration may even lead to temporary blindness or restriction of breathing for sometime. This is enough to weaken your attacker.
The best way to use a pepper spray is to hit the stream on the attacker's face. Your attacker (which has now become a victim!) will become incapacitated for sufficient time so that you can run away or get help. Besides this, you need not feel guilty of attacking your attacker. You have only harmed him temporarily. This is not permanent and will not cause serious injury.
Remember, if you're in New York, you must buy a pepper spray from a licensed pharmacist or a firearm dealer. If you're in Michigan, you can use specific sprays that have been approved. In Massachusetts, you must possess a Firearms Identification Card to use such sprays, while in Wisconsin, you cannot use UV dye sprays.
