Dry cleaning is the result of an accident. It happened on 19th century when Jean Baptiste Jolly, who was the owner of a large scale dye company, faced an incident where his maid spilled some quantity of kerosene on a stained table cloth. Next morning both of them noticed that the stain was completely vanished. Jolly could realize the astonishing property of kerosene in removing stain and spots and started using the components commercially as a cleaning process.
It was a new cleaning process and it was done without using water, it was named as dry cleaning. At this initial stage dry clean method was not risk-free and the method included toxic substances like gasoline kerosene, carbon tetrachloride, and trichloroethylene were included. Till 1950, apart from these substances, on more substance was in gross use of dry clean process it was named as perchlorethylene, also was known as perc.
However, in these days dry cleaning process has undergone gross change; instead of the harmful chemical nowadays dry cleaners use non toxic ingredients and clothes are tagged and pre-treated for initial treatment of any kind of visible stain. After the initial treatment, the clothes are placed inside a big washing machine often called dry cleaning tank. Some of these dry clean machines have a heating chamber therefore these machines may work with 2-fold benefits like washer and dryer in one combo pack. Once dry cleaning and drying method is implemented, the stain removal treatment is done on the fabric. It is called post-stain treatment phase.
Dry cleaning is not only wash and dry of stained and dirty clothes; it is a caring treatment and conditioning schedule for the expensive and delicate clothes. After drying the fabrics, the clothes are properly mended and then wrapped in plastic pack making them ready for delivery.
Previously used perc has been considered as toxic element and it has been proved that treatment of clothes for stain removal with perc has many hazardous effect some of which are serious health threat and the residues procured from perc used dry cleaning method is dangerously threatening for environment as hi-grade pollutant. In modern dry clean method prec has been replaced by diluted carbon dioxide. Therefore most of the modern dry cleaning machines are made with one pressure chamber and pressure door for optimum cleaning of stained and dirty clothes. The dry cleaning products available with dilute carbon-dioxide base are comparatively health friendly and acts gentle way on the clothes.
The latest method of dry clean process is green clean method where completely organic products are used for wash and stain removal process. These organic product residues are very limited in nature and hardly have they posed any threat to human body or for environment as any toxic pollutant.
Once upon a time dry cleaning was only done by commercial laundry service and it is not possible to have dry clean wash method at home. After availability on home dry clean kit dry cleaning process could have been managed at home. There are many online stores are available now who deal with dry cleaner supplies and those who want to run their dry cleaning wash process at home can purchase good quality product from these stores.
