Every birth is simply a clock ticking away towards its death and there is no such thing called immortality on our planet earth. This law is universal and material things, though tested and built to last for a hundred years require periodical maintenance and checkups frequently just to make sure that they are in serviceable condition. Computers face this problem of decay too and at times, they simply stop working and go to seed. At this point of their life, they require external help and there are specific software available on today’s market which aid in boot up process whenever a computer refuses to boot up.
Boot up explained
To put things in perspective and to explain it all in lucid terminology, one must understand that there are two memories in one’s computer system, which is responsible for smooth functioning of a system. One memory is the hard drive where all data are stored on one’s computer and the other is a runtime memory that is a volatile memory and this is used only to execute programs one one’s computer. This runtime memory helps in bringing up programs from its hard disk and first of all, it brings up an operating system, which is a platform for all the other programs to run on a computer. Boot up failure is when this program does not function and it results in a black, blue, green or even a blank screen from which one cannot get any response. This black screen of boot failure is particularly called ‘the black screen of death’ to identify it with death which, in our physical world refers to termination of all physical activity.
A bit of history
This terminology came into being during the early part of 1950s when programs were stored on punched cards or other forms of storage like magnetic drums, tapes and punched cards. These programs were loaded to a computer without manual help from an operator and it was similar to a person pulling himself up by his bootstraps. This is the reason why the initial process of loading up programs into a main memory from a secondary memory was termed ‘booting’ up a computer. This booting can be done today with the help ofa boot up CD that is usually provided by a manufacturer along with his package and this is called a boot CD. There are other options available to a user today because technology has improved and one has access to other means of loading up programs from his secondary device as well. There areboot USBs available today and these can be purchased from a software store. These USBs contain boot up programs for either Windows or Mac operating systems and one can purchase them depending on his system requirements.
Technical specifications
These are secondary stage boot loaders and this means that devices on which bootable CD or bootable disk can be used must be capable of allowing boot up from secondary devices like CDs and USBs. Wondershare’s product allows a person to boot his computer through its USB product called Liveboot.
