The city of Mumbai was named the Alpha world city in 2009 and it is the most populous city of India, having the highest GDP not only in India but also in South, West and Central Asia. Apart from this, it is also an education hub of the country, boasting colleges that provide courses and programmes in arts, commerce, science, engineering, law, technical studies, management studies, applied arts, media and many more. Most of these colleges are affiliated under the University of Mumbai; these colleges offer either the BA or B.Sc or B.Com degree. To enter any of the colleges, one has to have 12 years of school education, thereafter making the students eligible to apply to any of the colleges that are situated in and around the city. Since Mumbai is such a vibrant city, some of the top colleges in Mumbai are talked about in the subsequent paragraphs.
The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s College in Andheri, Guru Nanak College of Arts, Science, Commerce in Sion, Jai Hind College in Churchgate, Mithibhai College in Vile Parle, St. Andrew’s College in Bandra, Sophia College for Women on Pedder Road, St. Xavier’s College in Dhobitalao, Wilson College in Girgaum, Khalsa College in Matunga are some of the colleges that offer course in all three fields of arts science and commerce and are considered among the top colleges of Mumbai. Almost all of these colleges are affiliated under the University of Mumbai, with a few of them working under the status of a deemed university. To get through to any one of these colleges, one has to do well in the 12th board exams and score highly in the subject of his/her choice which one would want to pursue in college. Other than this, some colleges might have separate entrance exams to reduce the rush of students applying.
There are also law colleges that belong to the top colleges of Mumbai list. Some of them are Government Law College in Churchgate, G J Advani Law College in Bandra,Dr. Ambedkar Law College in Wadala, TMC Thane Law College in Thane. To get through to these colleges, one can sit for the CLAT, or sit for the separate entrance examinations that each of the institutions have.
There are media colleges too: School of Broadcasting and Communication in Andheri and Masters in Communication and Journalism, in the University of Mumbai. Apart from this, Mumbai boasts of a host of elite science and technical colleges. The best among them are the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Other than these, there is also the Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, National Center for Software Technology and others that belong to the top colleges of Mumbai list.
R.A. Poddar College of Commerce and Economics, SIES College of Commerce and Economics and Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and economics are among the best commerce and economics colleges in Mumbai. Sir J.J. College of Architecture, Indian Institute of Fashion Design and Technology, Raheja College of Applied Arts are among the best in the applied arts colleges in Mumbai.
