These buildings are most certainly an engineering feat of epic proportions, taking into account that in those days, builders were the home owners themselves, and they most certainly did not have the modern amenities or equipment available to us today. Never mind basic building materials such as cement and bricks, they were not able to place an order for a ton of bricks and pay for it with their credit cards on line. They had to use the raw materials at their disposal, such as limestone and oak, and using some incredible skill, find a way to get it from they found it and transform the materials into workable beams and planks and boulders that they were able to build a home with. Visiting the area is a feast for the senses, the quaint Cotswold Cottages, originally built, still stand today, as a testament to the sheer architectural brilliance of its times. It will take a few good hours of exploring your cottage accommodation, where life as it was all those years ago is still evident, in every stained glass window and handmade window frame. Run your hands down the limestone pillars and don’t forget to duck as you enter your cottage, the low slung beams with knock you on the head! Cotswold Cottages are tucked away along meandering meadow rivers, snuggled underneath sprawling roses and in the shadows of magnificent churches, all built when the Cotswolds were still a booming wool town, full of opportunity and plenty of money. Take a leisurely country stroll down one of the farm roads into the little village with your basket on your arm, as you head to the local farmers market and where you are still able to purchase fresh farm produce straight off the farmer’s cart.
