The Annual Post Falls Ironman Triathlon, held every fourth Sunday of June, is a spectacular sporting event that gathers the world’s top athletes.
No other sporting event, other than the Olympics and the X-Games, has drawn as much attention than the Ironman. It is here where one’s competitive mettle is tested against some of the world’s best tri-athletes.
Now, you might wonder where the heck these guys get all that energy to propel them through the 140.6-mile course.
Well, it takes more than sheer determination and the unnerving focus to complete the three events in record time. The six year old Post Falls Ironman Triathlon requires rigorous physical training and conditioning that makes efficient use of the different muscles of the body.
You see, the triathlon itself is a continuous event of three individual sporting events. It includes swimming in the Lake Post Falls for 2.4 miles, cycling through the paved roads of the city for 112 miles, and then running for 26.2 miles.
Individually, swimming, cycling and marathon require intense preparations. What more if you were to combine them in a continuous event with hardly a break in between events?
These guys have had their mindsets and bodies conditioned to meet the heightened metabolic demands of the Post Falls Ironman Triathlon. Even before the winners are declared, contenders and participants are already eyeing the next triathlon.
It is here where they get the most reflection as the day’s most significant highlights are very fresh in their memories. This allows them to get a firm grasp of what went wrong and how they need to address such issues in future runs at the recognition.
Once they hit the road back home, they already have a clear picture of what to do next.
Almost instantly, like a reflex as you will, these athletes will be hitting gyms and fitness centers. They will be conferring with their trainers and instructors on how the can improve their cardiovascular endurance and make a great transition from a has-been to a major title contender.
Nutritionists are employed to help them better prepare for the long journey towards the Post Falls Ironman Triathlon. You see, these athletes do not believe in the notion of many people that food is the body’s enemy.
They see food – the correct kind of food and in the correct amounts taken at the correct times – more as an important and necessary ingredient in their search for unparalleled physical performance. How many among you consider food as a friend and not as an enemy?
There are people who deliberately lose weight by starving themselves only to suffer the consequences of ill nutrition in the long run.
These athletes will also be developing a new strategy on how best to attack the next triathlon. In most cases, they will be reviewing video clips of the past triathlons and identify weak points as well as strong points.
It takes more than just a strong and enduring body to get past the Post Falls Ironman Triathlon. What one needs is a healthy and willing heart, a serious and focused mind, and that indomitable spirit of competitiveness.
