A picturesque landscape, with snow clad mountain peaks against a backdrop of lush green trees and a rich British history are among a few things which make Shimla a much sought after tourist destination. Located towards southern part of northern India and perched at an altitude of 2159 meters above sea level, the ‘Queen of Hills’ offers retreat to all kinds of tourists all through out the year.
This state capital has been blessed with innumerable gifts. Surrounded by seven scenic hills on all sides, Shimla tourism is ideal for those who seek peace and tranquility amidst the lofty Himalayan peaks. The Himalayan winds make Shimla temperature range from

Religious tourists can pay their homage at various temples, like the Jakhu temple, Sankat Mochan, Kali bari, which also provide a panoramic view over the surrounding valleys. Shimla over the years has managed to retain its colonial charm, and accordingly one can visit the Churches built during the British era, The Viceregal Lodge & Botanical Gardens on the Observatory hill, or simply take a walk through the Ridge.

Shimla is situated in the Shivalik range of Himalayas with a combination of low lying hills to gigantic mountains, which provide adventurous tourists with a number of outdoor activities like trekking, fishing, skiing et al.

Himachal Tourism provides for camps in various parts of the district, and the ice-skating rink in Shimla has the largest open-air area with naturally frozen ice. Near by sites include Kufri, with its rich biodiversity, Narkanda, which offers a spectacular view of the plains as well as the snow covered peaks. Chail, Rampur, Fagu, Sarahan and a dozen of other breathtaking sites is what makes Shimla different from the other Hill stations.

From luxury hotels to medium priced economy hotels and cheap budget hotels providing the right kind of accommodation as per the requirement. Various hotel packages offer the guests a number of facilities to make their stay at Shimla a comfortable and pleasant one. Honeymoon suites may also provide a panoramic view of the stupendous mountains in addition to well furnished rooms with all modern amenities.

Due to an all year round cool weather, warm clothes are a must. Pullovers, along with warm jackets are necessary in winters and light woolens during summers are necessary. As most of the places are traveled on foot, one also needs to possess a good pair of shoes.
