The Sony Ericsson Xperia range has recently seen the addition o several great new handsets. Among these is the X12 Arc. This great looking phone offers appeal on so many levels.

It is stylish and slim, packed with multimedia features, runs the latest version of the Android OS and boasts a large, hi res touchscreen.

In this article I will take a closer look at the key features of this attractive device.

Screen
The Sony Ericsson Arc has one of the most impressive touchscreens currently available on any smartphone. With a resolution of 480x 854, the 4.2 inch screen can display a whopping 16 million individual colours. Therefore, pictures, videos, games, web pages and the TimeScape UI are all perfectly displayed with the utmost quality and clarity. The screen also of course provides an intuitive and responsive means of navigating the UI, and has all the bells and whistles you would expect from such as high end device; accelerometer, multi-touch input, and even Sony’s BRAVIA Mobile Engine for the ultimate in video display quality.

Camera
As a camera phone, the Sony Ericsson Arc is perfectly equipped to take superb quality still images and videos with its 8 megapixel unit. The camera captures and displays photos at a resolution of 3264x 2248, meaning that the resulting images are of stunning quality and clarity. Autofocus, image stabilization, face and smile detection and LED flash are all on hand to simplify the task of taking photos, whilst simultaneously working behind the scenes to ensure that they come out perfectly every time. The camera can also of course, shoot video footage, and this is in great looking high-definition 720p. If you wish to enjoy your handiwork on the big screen, you can take advantage of the handset’s built in DLNA connectivity, which allows users to wirelessly stream content from the phone straight to a compatible TV.

Operating System
The Sony Ericsson Arc runs Android v2.3 (aka Gingerbread) as its OS of choice. This is the latest version for smartphones, and comes with numerous benefits. Users are able to download apps from the Android Market, meaning that they can take the functionality of the handset to a whole new level. The manufacturer’s custom Android interface, known as TimeScape is included, offering an easy to use and intuitive interface. As the name suggests, it displays relevant data in chronological order, so when you are viewing messages or social networking feeds, it is displayed in the order at which they were received, a feature which is more convenient than displaying data by its source or another parameter.

Aesthetics
In my opinion, the Sony Ericsson Arc is among the most stylish smartphones available today. At just 8.7mm it is one of the slimmest phones you can buy, and also very light at just 117 grams. The styling of the handset itself is somewhat minimalistic and very modern. The front is dominated by the screen with three stylish silver shortcut buttons located beneath this. To sum up the styling of this device in one word, I think that “sophisticated” is appropriate.

Whatever you are looking for when choosing a new smartphone, chances are you will find it in the Sony Ericsson Arc. As an added bonus it is very stylish, and makes a refreshing change from the Apple and HTC smartphones which are dominating the market at the moment.
