The Report Card of Mobile Phone Giant
|
Recently, mobile phone manufacturers have submitted the report cards of 2011 one after the other. Those report cards show turbulent and tragic phenomenon, with the increasingly obvious tendency of polarization.
Newa Geokesh, senior analyst of market research agency Technology Insights Research LLC, said that Apple and Samsung are still the winners. Whether Nokia and Blackberry are brought to their knees is now elusive; where the way of HTC is is still variable.
Polarization
People outside predicted that IPhone would be a thing out of fashion one day. But the myth of Apple is still going on in 2011.
In the fiscal year of 2012, the revenues of Apple's first quarter were 46.3 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 73%; the net profits were 131 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 118%. The sales volume of iPhone reached 37.04 million, an increase of 128%.
Previously, it has been temporarily taken away the throne of smart phone king by Samsung. But in the fourth quarter, the hot sale of iPhone 4S helped it return as a king. In the same quarter, of the shipped 149 million smart phones worldwide, iPhone accounted for 25%.
The limelight of Samsung is not bad. The report of Juniper Research shows that the share of Samsung’s smart phones has increased from 4.7% in the first quarter of 2010 to the current 21.7%, an amazing increase. Samsung has become the world's largest smart phone vendors, and it is still one of the largest part suppliers of Apple.
Other handset manufacturers are ill-fated and even appalling: the revenue of Nokia in the fourth quarter fell by 21% and was only $ 13.1 billion; the net loss of the quarter is 10.7 billion euros, which lasts for three consecutive quarters. Nokia’s shipments of smart phone fell by 31%.
Motorola is also in the doldrums. Although it was acquired by Google, it could not avoid a loss. In the full year of 2011, its net loss is $ 249 million.
HTC has long been suffering. Last year, it was beyond Apple and became the largest mobile phone manufacturer in North America, but then it was locked into accusations. Financial report showed that the net profit of HTC in the fourth quarter fell by 26%, the first decline in net profit in two years.
The data of Juniper Research shows that in the previous quarter, Apple and Samsung become the boss in turn, other manufacturers being overshadowed.
