Dry carpet cleaning has become a popular style of carpet and rug cleaning. The name itself however does not accurately describe the process. Dry carpet cleaning does after all use water, although it uses much less than traditional steam cleaning. So does this make it a better process? The answer is yes and no. Here are the pros and cons of dry carpet cleaning.
The pros of dry carpet cleaning lie mainly in the fact that the carpet dries very quickly, usually in less than an hour. This makes it ideal for businesses that can not close like airports, casinos, etc. It is also great for home owners who hate the inconvenience of waiting for carpet to dry. Another pro is that it is usually gentler on delicate materials that can not take a great deal of water like delicate oriental or silk rugs.
The cons of this process however are numerous. The main disadvantage of dry carpet cleaning is that it does not use much water. This means that there is very limited rinsing and it does not have the capacity to remove great deals of soil. If you have a heavily soiled carpet or a carpet that is contaminated with pet soiling, this is not the process for you. Another disadvantage is that many of the dry cleaning methods available rely on the power of solvents to get the job done. This can cause odors that many people will find quite offensive.
As you can see, there are pros and cons to the method of dry carpet cleaning. It is my belief that dry carpet cleaning has its place but unless you absolutely need the carpet dry in minutes, it is best to stick with traditional steam cleaning. Dry carpet cleaning is best left for touch up cleanings and cleanings where the carpet must be dry extremely quickly.
