If there is one swimming pool supply that your pool should never be caught without, that would be swimming pool filters. This swimming pool supply plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the entire pool area. Without it, a clean pool will not be possible.
Choosing the proper right type of pool filter is very important in keeping the quality of your entire swimming pool area. Basically, there are three types of pool filters; all of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. It is very important that you pick the one that would serve your swimming pool area best.
The first type of swimming pool filter is called the sand filter. As it name suggests, it makes use of sand as the filtering material. Sand filters are made up of a large tank that is normally made of fiberglass, concrete or metal; it also contains a thick bed of special grade sand, which is usually square in shape.
The filter works by allowing the water to enter from the top and is pushed down through the sand layer. The edges of the particles of sand hold the impurities back, therefore allowing only pure and cleaned water to get back to the pool. However, once the pressure is heightened inside the sand filter because of the debris that has been collected. When this happens, there is a need to backwash the filter.
Aside from the sand filter, there is also another type of pool filters which is called the cartridge filters. This type of filter can be considered as one of the most commonly used type of filter, mostly because it is the easiest and most convenient to use type of filter. Like the sand filter, it works by allowing water to pass through and then the debris and other impurities are trapped by the filtering material, which is usually polyester or any other material that is good in filtering.
Cleaning this type of filter is very easy, you can simply wash it with water from a hose pipe, or you may soak it in detergent solution for some time and then put them right back into the pool area. This type of pool filter is more expensive than sand filters; however, they clean more efficiently because they can filter impurities that are as small as five to ten microns in size.
There is also another type of pool filter called the DE or the diatomaceous Earth filter. This is the most expensive type but is highly efficient. They are also cleaned using the backwashing process like the sand filters.
