The replacement time depends on the amount of dust accumulated in the filter. There are washable mechanical filters too which can be washed and reused several times before they need to be replaced with new ones. The electronic air filters just need to be cleaned in a bi-annual basis. In the event of gas absorption air filters, manufacturers claim that these filters can last for 3 months. After three months the carbon used in these filters will loose its filtration properties and the refrigeration system has to be fitted with new filters.
