It seems the royal wedding, announced at the end of 2010 has sparked a wave of knee-jerk reactions, literally, as thousands of men are getting down on one knee to propose. It’s not just the royals that plan on tying the knot this year; celebrities are at it too including Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and David Tenant.
If you too are planning on getting hitched in 2011 you should head over to the National Wedding Show at Birmingham’s NEC from the 4th until the 6th of March. It is being billed as the ‘UK’s biggest and best wedding event’, aside from Prince William’s big day in April we suppose.
The event is designed to offer inspiration, ideas and advice for would-be brides and grooms. Whatever your budget and fairytale whims may be, the event is designed to appeal to everyone. Over 250 experts from the industry including planners and service providers will be on hand to offer assistance and advice to visitors. You might even be able to win yourself the honeymoon of your dreams too.
For the ladies, there will be hair and make-up tips as well as catwalk showcasing the latest wedding dress designs, trends and themes. Men’s fashion is not forgotten either will displays from both up-and-coming and well established suite designers.
You can coincide the event with a romantic mini-break in Birmingham. The city has been enjoying a revolution for the past twenty years and it has now becoming a shopping heaven.
Birmingham has three large malls including the recently renovated Bullring, one of the largest shopping centres in the UK. Here you’ll find all your favourite high street favourites and the country’s leading department stores as well as ever-chic Selfridges.
The Mailbox Centre is a label lover’s paradise and is perfect for finding hen-party dresses and wedding accessories. The Pallasades is a bargain basement, perfect for those on a tight wedding budget and Birmingham’s famous jewellery quarter is where women fall in love all over again and men have to dig very deep in their pockets.
For the true romantics, head to the Symphony Hall for a night of music and fine dining in elegant modern surroundings. The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra regularly performs here but visiting musicians from all genres including jazz, soul and rock make frequent appearances too.
