Essentially when computers were invented all information inputted was directly from the keyboard. Type in a few characters and those characters commands the computer. But things got more complicated because it wasn't user friendly. Most people don't think like analytical programmers. They want convenience and easy accessibility. That's where the mouse comes in. The mouse was introduced in 1968 by Douglas Engelbart at a technology presentation. Later on it was re-designed by Armando Fernandez which was featured in a Xerox 1979 Disclosure Journal. It's called the mouse for obvious reasons. It has small cylindrical shape with a connection to the hard drive resembling a mouse's tail. The mouse also features a rubber ball underneath the device for easy movement.
With this unique and user friendly invention other products were developed to assist the mouse. One of those products was the mouse pad. The mouse pad became very popular in 1983 by computer users. Its rise in notoriety came about to increase more friction with the rubber ball underneath the device. This allowed it to move with more fluidity. They weren't called mouse pads originally they were called special pads but the term was later recognized as mouse pads in the Oxford English Dictionary.
The benefits of this handy device proved enormous. It increased productivity because the handiness of it made it easier to navigate through computer software's. Another great benefit was for the office furniture specifically tables. It lessened the scratches that table surfaces would get my continuous navigation movement. These pads also decreased the amount of dirt and debris that mouse's would get. This was great because it increased the lifespan per say for the device. Computer addicts didn't have to replace them often.
There are many different features one can add to a mouse pad. They come in a variety of textures, shapes, and sizes. Most pads are made out of rubber composites but in modern times you can get it in any material available. For individuals like gamers or programmers the best types of pads are made out of plastic, glass or aluminum for better longevity.
