Although it certainly is true that larger companies usually have a need for more legal counsel, smaller companies also have a need as well.

In fact, it is not only important to make sure that you have a lawyer, but it is important to make sure that you are consulting with them on more than just legal issues that may be sticky. That is due to the fact that if you are being sued, it is generally too late for you to hire a lawyer and to be successful when doing so. Of course, it is never too late for you to seek legal counsel, but it is a much better idea for you to have them by your side before the problem occurs.

Another issue that many people have to deal with is the fact that they feel that they don't need legal counsel, just because they are a small firm. An employment lawyer is not just somebody that can assist you in making wise choices, they can help you to tie up any loose ends so that any problems that could occur are going to be minimized. By having them on board when the employee is hired, you can have any contracts or other paperwork that may be necessary in place so that there are no questions if something else should happen down the road.

One final thing that you need to think about is the fact that there are going to be different lawyers that can handle different things. This is true when it comes to employees, intellectual property, taxes, real estate, and contracts. Although you certainly could hire an attorney who can assist you with each of those items specifically, it is always a better idea to hire a law firm that is able to take care of all of those items for you.
