It is the part of the great Ganga plains. It is also said that the Mahabodhi Temple is is located at the place of Lord Buddha's enlightenment. Bihar is the place known by its four holy sites related to the life of the Lord Buddha. It is the place where Prince Siddhartha gained enlightenment under Bodhi tree and became Buddha the Enlightened One. Today Bodh Gaya is the site of the famous Mahabodhi Temple, which is a pilgrimage destination for Buddhists from all over the world. During the childhood Lord Buddha lived as a prince in his royal palace but at the age of 29 he transcended to the forests and followed a spiritual life. The temple is famous by the name of Mahabodhi. It offers excellent records of the various events associated with the life of Buddha and his worship. It is mainly being done since the Emperor Ashoka built the temple, the balustrades and the memorial column. The Bodhi tree is very near to the temple where Siddhartha was seated and gained enlightenment. The base of the tree is covered with huge plastic ribbons. On the right side in the middle of the tree and the temple there is a golden stage evidently built by Emperor Ashoka to mark the spot where the Buddha was seated in his hunt of enlightenment. After that there is the Bodhi Sarovar where Lord Buddha used to take bath before going to the meditation. The impressions of the Lord Buddha can be seen at Chankamana which is located on the north of the Bodhi Temple. Apart from all these places of Lord Buddha there are many temples built by the people of various nations. How to Reach Bodh Gaya is the place which is becoming more and more popular all over the world. Tourists came here to see the monuments of Bodh Gaya. It has very good railway connections and provides daily train service. The trains are available to Bodh Gaya from almost every part in India. The nearest railhead to Bodh Gaya is called as Gaya Station which is located at the distance of 17 kilometers. Besides ordinary trains Indian Railway has introduced a Bodh Gaya special Buddha Parikrama Express to cater the needs of Buddhist spiritual tourists. Buddha Parikrama Express links all the significant places appropriate to Buddhists tourism. Bodh Gaya also has a very good network of roadways. The main bus stand is located near Sujata Bridge on the bank of Falgu River on the northern edge of the town. Gaya is the nearest transport hub which is connected with Grand Trunk Road to catch direct busses to Patna, Nalanda, Rajgir and Varanasi. Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation also runs buses between Patna and Bodhgaya two times in a day. You can also reach Bodh Gaya by air, nearest airport is located at Gaya. Various domestic airlines operate their flights from here to other metro cities in India. Where to Stay Bodh Gaya provides good accommodation facilities also. The hotels that provide luxurious facilities according to the taste of tourists are Hotel Taj Darbar, Hotel Tathagat, Hotel The Royal Residency and Hotel Tokyo Vihar. These hotels provides facilities according to the needs of Indian and foreign tourists.
