Famous Art sells reproductions of some of the world's most memorable art. It offers a particularly large array of Impressionist art. Artists like Van Gogh and Cezanne fathered the style. To better understand art, one needs to venture inside the mind of the artist. The circumstances in which a work of art is created largely aid in the understanding of it. A person's interpretation of a certain piece can be greatly influenced by the extent of their knowledge. Following is a few words on some of the artists featured on this website. Knowing a bit about the artist can inform a customer when making a choice.
Arguably known as the founder of the Impressionist movement, Claude Monet was the most prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature. He specialized in landscapes and women within said landscapes. Later in his life he suffered from cataracts, which affected both of his eyes. His impaired vision may have been a blessing in disguise, as he did some of his most famous work during this time. It is speculated that after his surgery he was able to perceive certain colors even better than the average human.
Van Gogh was a troubled man. Suffering from anxiety and sporadic bouts of mental illness, he completed his best work within the last two years of his life. His emotional issues clearly informed his work, as he created some of the most evocative pieces of the nineteenth and twentieth century's. His use of color and line tell the tale of a highly emotional man, one who perhaps was overwhelmed by his amazing capacity for feeling. He died alone and unknown at the age of thirty-seven from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Paul Cezanne was a French painter who is thought to have created a bridge between Impressionism and Cubism. Pablo Picasso was quoted as saying Cezanne is "the father to us all". Cezanne was a master of composition, color, design and tone. He studied his subjects intensely, trying to accurately portray the complexity of human perception.
Like his friend Vincent van Gogh, with whom he spent some time painting in France in 1888, Paul Gauguin struggled with depression and at one time attempted suicide. He traveled to Martinique in search of an idyllic landscape and worked as a laborer on the Panama Canal construction. He was dismissed from his job after only two weeks. This thirst for life and unending curiosity is reflected in Gauguin's work. The rich colors and fluid themes of many of his paintings show us a passionate man, who unlike Van Gogh, continued to live life to its fullest.
Yet another trail blazer in the Impressionist movement, Pierre-Auguste Renoir left a lasting impression in the art world. A celebrator of beauty, and especially feminine sensuality, he is known for his beautiful portraits of women in the mid 1800s. One of his most memorable works is Bather With Blonde Hair. In it he pays tribute to the female form in all its glory, capturing it realistically yet as if in a dream.
