The HTC Wildfire has proven to be a successful handset for the Taiwanese manufacturer. It offers an ideal entry level device to the Android operating system, with a spec list which includes the likes of a 5 megapixel camera, fast Wi-Fi internet browsing, and the ability to download apps from the Android Market.

Although the device has been available for over a year, it continues to sell well, thanks to a spec list you would expect to find on a smartphone with a heftier price tag. In this article I will give an overview of the features on offer with the HTC Wildfire.

One of the first things to strike users of the Wildfire is its compact size (106.8x 60.4x 12mm) and light weight (118 grams), which combined with the matt finish of the handset make it a pleasure to use. The unmistakable built quality found in all HTC handsets can also be felt, with the phone boasting a rigid and solid feel.

The front of the handset is dominated by the 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, which offers a reasonable pixel resolution of 240x 320. This may not sound very high, but it is perfect for the size of the screen, and means that photos and videos are displayed in perfect clarity and quality. Additionally, the screen makes for an interactive and enjoyable means of navigating the renowned HTC Sense UI. This is the manufacturer’s custom Android skin, and allows for a very high degree of customisation and versatility, with the ability to create 7 homescreens. These can be customised with apps, widgets, and various themes, of which additional ones can be downloaded.

Browsing the internet is a pleasure with the HTC Wildfire. Both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity are on hand to provide fast web browsing, and the full HTML browser even supports flash, so you can make the most of the internet. Of course, users can also send emails quickly and easily from the phone, with an email client which supports multiple accounts. Additionally, most email services also provide free apps which can be downloaded, allowing you to manage your email accounts with ease.

The HTC Wildfire is also highly competent as a cameraphone, surprisingly so given its modest price tag. At 5 megapixels (2592x 1944 pixel resolution), it is able to take very high quality still images, as well as the option to shoot video footage. A flash is also built into the handset, along with features such as autofocus and geo-tagging.

To store your photos as well as music tracks, video clips and applications, the HTC Wildfire offers expandable storage in the form of a microSD card slot. This can be utilised by installing a memory card of up to 32 GB, so even an entire digital music collection can be stored on the phone, and enjoyed by either the high quality built in speakers, or with earphones thanks to the 3.5mm audio jack.

Of course there is much more to the HTC Wildfire, but I have highlighted what I feel are the key features to take into account when choosing a new mobile phone. If you are interested in the device, then take a closer look; I think you will be surprised at the features it offers, especially considering you can bet your hands on it for free from just £15 per month. As an added bonus, it even comes in a range of stylish colour variants.
