When protecting critical machinery or high-risk areas from fires a fixed fire protection system is important. The quicker a fire can be detected and extinguished, the less damage it will cause, production losses can be kept to a minimum, and employee safety will be greatly enhanced. Using an appropriate fire protection system, such as Firefly Quick Suppression System, with a quick response time, the fire's risk of spreading to other areas can be greatly reduced.
Fixed Fire Protection System
A Firefly Quick Suppression System is a Fixed Automatic Discharge Fire Suppression System which includes a flame sensor, water mist suppression, and control system with strict demands on quick system response times and fast extinguishing performance. The unique design of the hydraulic system enables a very quick system response time. The complete system response time for a Firefly Quick Suppression System is normally as short as 1-3 seconds. Even shorter response times can be achieved for special applications.
The detection is combined with Firefly’s water mist suppression system, which has remarkable flame suppression capabilities, utilising a very small amount of water. Firefly has a number of different flame detectors designed to match the conditions of each application. It is based on Firefly's own high-performance flame detectors and efficient water mist systems. This system is designed to quickly detect and suppress fires/flames around critical machinery or high-risk areas.
Purpose of Fixed Fire Protection Systems
The purpose of a Quick Suppression System is to act quickly enough to avoid or significantly reduce damages and production downtime and prevent the fire from escalating and spreading into other areas as well as increasing personal safety.
Applications Where Firefly Quick Suppression Systems Are Used
1.Mill room protection
2.Turbines
3.Transformers
4.Loading and unloading areas
5.Conveyors
6.Shredders
7.Oil Pump Rooms
8.Wood Panel Presses
9.Planers and Moulders
10.Protection of IR Dryers in Paper Machines
11.Converting Machines
12.Tissue Machines
And more…
Extinguishing is as important as Detection
Steam Extinguishing:
The choice of extinguishing agent is generally determined by the products handled in the process. Another factor is the availability of an extinguishing agent.
Diverting:
Another extinguishing method used in the Firefly system is mechanical diverting. When an ignition source has been detected, a divert valve is opened, which redirects the material flow out of the process line.
Isolation and Inverting:
In some processes, gas may be more suitable as an extinguishing agent. Carbon dioxide and nitrogen are excellent extinguishing agents, provided that the affected section of the process can be isolated.
Water Extinguishing:
Different applications and problems of fire require totally different types of water extinguishing methods. Large water droplets with powerful full cone water spray are needed to penetrate material flows in chutes or pneumatic conveying systems.
