Whether you live in the Phoenix area or are looking to purchase a home or Phoenix real estate nearby, you’re sure to appreciate the multitude of dining options found throughout the Valley of the Sun. Host to a trio of much-loved restaurants, The Farm at South Mountain is a one-of-a-kind dining treasure popular with residents and visitors alike. In fact, dining beneath the pecan trees at The Farm has been likened to “a spiritual experience for those who journey to this 12-acre organic oasis.”
The Farm Kitchen, the Morning Glory Café and Quiessence
The Farm Kitchen, an idyllic picnic and patio lunch spot, is the original restaurant at The Farm. Serving fresh soups, delicious sandwiches, seasonal salads and made-from-scratch baked goods in picnic baskets, guests at The Farm Kitchen are invited to relax alone under shady pecan trees or bring a group to celebrate an occasion.
The Morning Glory Café is a comfy-cozy breakfast and brunch patio serving omelets, house-baked muffins and pastries, locally made sausages and more. Meanwhile, using domestic ingredients from Arizona’s finest farmers, herdsmen and artisans, the contemporary American farm cuisine at Quiessence is inspired by tradition and seasonality. This lovely dining venue enjoys a true ‘daily menu’ proudly highlighting the local market’s availability.
Weddings and Events
Whether you’re planning an elegant event, a festive party or a family picnic, The Farm at South Mountain boasts multiple spaces to accommodate both large and small groups for all types of special occasions.
The Story of The Farm at South Mountain
The Farm’s vision of sustainability was conceived by Dwight Heard (benefactor of the Heard Museum in downtown Phoenix) nearly a century ago. In the early 1920s, Heard acquired a large parcel of land and then subdivided the property into two-acre parcels which he sold with the distinct purpose of promoting self-sufficiency. A cow was even included in the then-whopping purchase price of $1,150, as were fifty chickens.
In keeping with Heard’s environmentally friendly philosophy, the ten acre site just south of Southern and 32nd Street in Phoenix was planted with 100 pecan trees. For over 40 years, this towering grove was nurtured by a retired cattleman by the name of Skeeter Coverdale, but ultimately harvesting 5,000 pounds of nuts every year became too much work for Skeeter and the property was eventually sold. A believer in supporting independently owned businesses, the current owner is A. Wayne Smith. At The Farm at South Mountain, Smith has managed to preserve the area’s serene sense of rural tranquility so refreshingly reminiscent of days gone by.
